A cappuccino at the border

Perched on stool at the border of the republic,

cappuccino to hand,

my eyes fixed on the water of centenary

as it cascaded step to step before a final fall,

seemingly inviting me to take refreshment

from the sound echoing from its pool.

A bullrings regeneration evolving around me,

as I rested, feet heavy and mind full,

I watched the ponies as they danced freely

within the measurement of a pane

and reflected on my consummated youth

and a reverberating hummingbird tone.

My visit that of a creature’s habit,

stopping off to take in the resonance

of steel and wood, a step down from snow hill

whilst the day was at is bluest, belying the cold

of the autumn movement as it fed my spirit

the final droplets of summer’s depleting energy.

Earlier I had stood like so many others

and contemplated motion, perusing

at the base of a statue warm and grey,

waiting patiently until it loosened then witnessed

a translucent globe rolling across its dancing figure;

though my most pleasurable delight was in observing

a meeting of a lover’s greeting and a floating kiss

that reminded me that spring would once again return

and so determined to make tangible

that particular thought and serve it to my beau in hope

that its heat would keep warm a winter’s separation.

Time compressed, the castle awaited my return,

so I crossed the border to the water’s sound

and within moments, thought reflected forgotten wishes

cast from previous encounters.

Tossing a coin I whispered to fortune and wished for nothing,

as I allowed my vision to follow its spiritual arc,

scattering afternoons remaining light within a continuous spin

before splashing into a well that cradled the hopes of many.

I had long since forgotten an October day

but now I had found another one that could revolve

within my thoughts for future reflective smiles.
